Pull Wires

Precision pull wires and welded pull wire assemblies are engineered for reliable deflection, articulation, and responsive control in steerable catheters, endoscopes, and other minimally invasive devices.

CONTROLLED PERFORMANCE FOR STEERABLE INSTRUMENTS

Motion Dynamics manufactures precision pull wires and welded pull wire assemblies that translate operator input into controlled deflection and articulation in steerable catheters, endoscopes, and delivery systems. These components carry repeated tensile loads through tight bend radii, where consistent geometry, surface finish, and termination integrity determine how faithfully a device responds at the tip. We manufacture pull wires primarily in stainless steel, in round and rectangular profiles selected to match load, flexibility, and space requirements. Our assemblies most commonly integrate multiple pull wires—ends rounded prior to welding—laser welded to a femtosecond laser-cut ring for precise, repeatable attachment. All laser cutting is performed on femtosecond systems, whose ultrashort-pulse cold ablation produces clean, burr-free features with minimal heat-affected zone, preserving the base material properties that fatigue performance depends on. We also integrate pull wires with laser-cut hypotube and shaft components, reducing handoffs and simplifying downstream assembly. Following weld operations, assemblies can be PTFE-coated to provide the low-friction actuation required by surface-steerable devices. From prototype through production, every program is supported by in-house cleaning and passivation, in-process inspection, and full traceability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Motion Dynamics manufactures precision pull wires in round and rectangular profiles, and welded pull wire assemblies—most commonly multiple wires laser welded to a laser-cut ring—for steerable catheters, endoscopes, sheaths, and delivery systems.

Motion Dynamics pull wires are manufactured primarily in stainless steel, which is selected for tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and corrosion performance. Alternative materials can be evaluated to meet specific design requirements.

At Motion Dynamics, we control wire geometry, surface finish, end preparation, and weld integrity through in-process inspection and full traceability, so actuation force and travel remain consistent from lot to lot.

All Motion Dynamics laser cutting is performed on femtosecond systems; ultrashort-pulse cold ablation produces clean, burr-free features with minimal heat-affected zone, preserving the material properties that pull wire fatigue performance depends on. In-house laser welding joins rounded wire ends to laser-cut rings and supports integration with hypotube and shaft components.

Yes. The Motion Dynamics engineering team collaborates directly with OEM engineers from first prototypes onward, optimizing geometry, material selection, and manufacturability as designs scale into production.
